Urša Rupnik (self-portrait)

Urša Rupnik (1984, Ljubljana) graduated in cultural studies from the Faculty of Social Sciences Ljubljana and in dance and choreography from the Academy of Dance Ljubljana. She has worked with important Slovenian choreographers, directors and other artists. She regularly collaborates with the dancer Liza Šimenc and with the dance collective Frankies, and is artistic head of the cultural association “Studio za svobodni ples”. She has been an assistant to the world-renowned American dancer, choreographer and pedagogue Joe Alegado (assisting him regularly at the Vienna International Dance Festival ImpulsTanz) and a member of his international dance group Jalegado Dance Company, based in Prague. Drawing on his method Shifting Roots – Alegado Movement language, she has been giving workshops and teaching classes as guest lecturer at different institutions at home and abroad. She holds a habilitation at the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana and has been working there as assistant since 2014. Since 2017 she is also a guest lecturer at the Ballet College of the Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory and at the Dance Academy Ljubljana. In 2018 she taught at the Belgrade Dance Institute; in 2019 at the ballet department of the Faculty of Music at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She is the recipient of the Meta Vidmar Plaque, presented by the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia for achievements in the field of contemporary dance art, and of the Silver Badge of the Union of Cultural Societies of Slovenia (2019), bestowed to her in recognition of her accomplishments in the area of dance.
