dancer, choreographer, pedagogue, artistic director
Mojca Kasjak (1971, Maribor) graduated first from geography and sociology at the Maribor University and in 1997 finished a specialisation course at the London Contemporary Dance School in Great Britain. In her years-long career she created many performances, organised numerous projects and received many dance-related awards. Her creative and production work goes often hand in hand with working with children and young people; as a mentor she choreographed numerous performances for and with children and the young. As a dancer Mojca has worked with dance and theatre artists such as Minka Veselič Kološa, Snježana Premuš, Matjaž Farič, Grant Mc’Daniel, Andy Papas, Claire Russ, Jasmina Križaj, Aleksandra Blagojević, Maya Milenovič Workman, Sebastijan Horvat and many others.
Between 2005 and 2013 Mojca was programme and artistic director of the Maribor-based Plesna izba (PIM), in the frame of which she initiated the international dance festival Contemporary Dance Platform, which in 2014 joined forces with another Maribor-based festival Performa.
Mojca participated in the development of the national guidelines for education in the arts for the National Education Institute Slovenia, was a board member in the project Institutionalisation of Contemporary Dance in Slovenia and was involved in the preparations for the constitution of Contemporary Dance Centre, which unfortunately was never made operational. Between 2010 and 2012 she acted, on behalf of Plesna Izba Maribor (PIM), as coordinator for north-eastern Slovenia in the frame of the Contemporary Dance Network, a project aimed at improving the conditions for NGOs in culture and the arts. From 2010 to 2014 she was also the main coordinator of the international, EU-supported Modul-dance project at PIM, acting as a representative of Slovene dance in the international space. In the frame of Modul-dance Mojca participated in different conferences across Europe and hosted numerous contemporary dance performances in Maribor.
